The game was released for the Linux and Macintosh platforms in 2002.In 2003, the game was ported to the PlayStation 2 and Xbox and subtitled as Operation Resurrection and Tides of War, respectively. Both console versions include a series of prequel single player missions where the main character, B.J. Blazkowicz and his partner Agent One operate in Nazi-occupied Egypt, in North Africa. The missions in console ports are slightly different from the PC version (as they were created after the PC release and have somewhat bigger locations and more content), and in the PS2 version some missions were divided and separated as different levels (but with the same name). The PS2 version allows for purchasing upgrades such as increasing ammo capacity or maximum health by finding secrets at the end of each level. In the Xbox version a Secret Bonus is awarded after every level when all the secret areas for that level have been found. It also has a new Shotgun weapon found in singleplayer as well as the Soldier and Engineer for multiplayer mode. New special equipment include the Holy Cross, EMP Device, and X-Shield. New enemies being Egyptian mercenaries, Occult Priests and X-Shepherds. The original Wolf 3D also comes included. The two player co-op mode is exclusive to Xbox and allows the second player to play as Agent One. The Xbox version has the addition of online play via Xbox Live and link play. It also has downloadable content. Xbox has also released a Platinum Hits edition of the game. The Playstation 2 version lacks any online play whatsoever.
Return To Castle Wolfenstein once had a booming multiplayer arena; to make sure, the multiplayer-just development, Enemy Territory, was among the most downloaded rounds of its own day. Nonetheless, only the combat mode is incorporated by this version of this game.
The PS2 version has a bonus feature which allows players to purchase items at the end of each level by finding secrets.[16] In the Xbox version a Secret Bonus is awarded after every level when all the secret areas for that level have been found.[16] It also has several new equipable items and weapons as well as new enemies. The two-player co-op mode is exclusive to Xbox and allows the second player to play as Agent One, altering the game in which he was never killed and played out the missions to the end. This allows for the story to support that Agent One either survived. Xbox version also has downloadable content,[22][23][24] system link play and had online multiplayer via Xbox Live before Live play was disabled for original Xbox games.[20] A Platinum Hits edition of the game was also released for the Xbox.[25] The PlayStation 2 version does not support online multiplayer.[26]
A multiplayer-only spinoff of the series, Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory, was originally planned as a full-fledged expansion pack for Return to Castle Wolfenstein developed by Splash Damage. The single-player component of the game was never completed and thus was removed entirely. The developers at that point decided the multiplayer part would be released as a free, downloadable standalone game. Enemy Territory is a team-based networked multiplayer game which involves completing objectives through teamwork using various character classes.
This gameplay was later reutilized in a full-fledged commercial game Enemy Territory: Quake Wars set in id Software's Quake universe. A semi-sequel called Wolfenstein was developed by Raven Software and id Software and published by Activision,[62] and released on August 18, 2009. A successor to Wolfenstein titled Wolfenstein: The New Order and a standalone prequel expansion titled Wolfenstein: The Old Blood have also been released in 2014 and 2015. The Old Blood references RTCW with characters with similar names and the X-labs being mentioned.
This is just an engine port, although the apk does contain the DEMO version of RTCW, not the full game. YOU WILL NEED TO LEGALLY OWN Return to Castle Wolfenstein IF YOU WISH TO PLAY IT IN VR USING RTCWQUEST.
We recommend doing all copy / move operations via the Sidequest App. Windows File System in combination with ADB has severe caching / syncronisation issues and will often show files that no longer exist and not show files that have been moved. Before attempting to start RTCWQuest you need to do the following: Install the latest RTCWQuest version from the desktop SideQuest application Run the game once through your Quest. The APK includes the RTCW demo but it is recommended to copy the files from the full install to play. Locate the install of return to Castle Wolfenstein on your PC, if installed from Steam then it will be somewhere like C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/steamApps/common/RTCW/ Copy the following PK3 files from the installed RTCW game folder on your PC (in the Main folder) to the /RTCWQuest/Main folder (and allow any overwrites) on your Oculus Quest whilst it is connected to the PC: pak0.pk3 sp_pak1.pk3 sp_pak2.pk3 sp_pak3.pk3 sp_pak4.pk3 You have to have run RTCWQuest at least once for the folder to be created and if you don't see it when you connect your Quest to the PC you might have to restart the Quest (or make sure the Sidequest App is open as this often forces the file system to appear). (HD Textures and Improvements - optional - but very highly recommended) Download the VR version of the Venom Mod from Mod DB. Unzip the contents to somewhere on your PC. Copy all PK3 files from the folder "Venom Mod - RtCWquest edition" to your Quest folder "RTCWQuest/Main". Overwrite if needed. If you wish for more vicious and smarter enemies, also copy over "sp_vpak9.pk3" from "Improved Ai (optional)" to "RTCWQuest/Main". This makes the enemies more aggressive and aim a lot better. You can revert this anytime by deleting "sp_vpak9.pk3".
Backpack There is a handy backpack feature which acts as a quick access to certain weapons/pickups. To access the backpack move the controller out of sight over your shoulder. Press and hold one of the following buttons to access the associated items: Dominant Hand Controller A (or X for left handed) - Knife (useful to quickly smash up stuff or stab) B (or Y for left handed) - Binoculars (once you have picked them up in game), raise them to your face to look through them, pull trigger to zoom in/out Grip button - Grenades / Dynamite - You can then throw them in the usual manner using the trigger Release the button to return to the previously active weapon Off Hand Controller X (or A for left handed) - Quick Save Game Y (or B for left handed) - Load Last Quick Save
The game is a return to serious gunfights as well. Over a dozen lethal choices are available to eradicate the Nazi threat, including submachine guns, sniper rifles, and experimental weapons. Damage is location specific, rewarding headshots more than body parts. More emphasis is placed on sniping than charging in with guns blazing. Even at close quarters, the one-shot sniper kill will have you reaching for the Mauser Rifle instead of the MP-40. Sadly, the Tesla and Venom weapons don't deliver the same accuracy or damage in Blazkowicz's hands as when the enemies use them.
About the download, Return to Castle Wolfenstein is a not that heavy game that will not require as much storage space than the average game in the section PC games. It's very heavily used in some countries such as Romania, India, and Serbia.
Keep in mind that Wolfenstein is a series full of twists and turns. Most people who assumed this series' origins to be steeped in its FPS roots will be pretty surprised, with later games taking more of a story-centric focus that actually works out quite well! Regardless of which game you jump into, each and every title in the Wolfenstein series has a little something for everyone.
The legendary Wolfenstein 3D set the stage for a genre that would become one of the most popular categories in gaming history, full to the brim with some of the most iconic stages and enemies in gaming history. It's a fun game that you can still get some mileage out of even today! 2b1af7f3a8
