In fact, these three simplistic groups are usually further subdivided. Education, accent, etiquette, names, and occupations are all associated with stereotypes about individuals.

Whether you agree with the concept of class may depend on your own upbringing. Over time, my view is that the social divide in modern Britain is less based on class and more on wealth. Yet the wood and tweed are still symbols of the institution, reminding me of the "old-school ties" and polite conservatism of a bygone era.

Tweed is a fabric, once again steeped in tradition. It has always been the fabric of choice for nobles and landed gentlemen.

Most recently, Geneva-based haute horlogerie brand Urwerk used wood and tweed for the Urwerk UR-110 Eastwood. The UR-110 has been in this range for many years and won the GPHG Best Design Watch Award in 2011. However, this new-age brand has infused a collection of watches limited to 10 pieces called "Eastwood" with a surprisingly unique look.

The Urwerk 110 is a watch that always puts a smile on my face whenever I see it. To dislike Urwerk's creativity is to fail to recognize talent.

Three rotating "hour modules" run around the dial area, with the main time displayed by the satellites adjacent to the scale displayed on the right side of the dial. The current hour is displayed at the very top, while the minute has an arrow-shaped tip. When the arrow reaches "60", depicted in red, the second hour module reaches zero minutes and takes responsibility for communicating the time. Next to the central hub where the arms that connect all three hour modules meet, is a small seconds display. In addition, two other functions occupy the dial canvas, a "day/night" indication and an "oil change" service interval display.

The time display on the Urwerk UR-110 Eastwood goes beyond the norm, presenting the enormous quotient of a mesmerizing horological theatre. However, despite the excellent performance of the well-choreographed hour module, the watch remains easy to read and interpret.

Part of my attraction to independent watchmaking is that it often defies convention and approaches timekeeping from a new angle. In fact, when it comes to Urwerk's allure, I choose to take a closer look at it because it's the antithesis of those in power.

The grade 5 titanium case is the epitome of modern style. However, the bezel is wood. Urwerk offers Eastwood a choice of two variants, Fairtrade Indonesian Macassar Ebony and Fairtrade South African Red Ivory. While I think wood is a symbol of conservatism, incorporating it into the front of the UR-110 is anything but. Urwerk seems to have used wood bravely and in doing so enhanced the modern character of its watches, contrary to any preconceived notions I had previously held.

On paper, the size of the Urwerk UR-110 Eastwood sounds rather large, measuring 47mm x 51mm x 16mm. However, when I put the watch on my wrist, it didn't look awkward, it looked very comfortable.

The crown is at 12 o’clock, and the titanium case back features two circular sapphire crystals that reveal two turbines connected to the self-winding movement.

The UR-9.01 is automatic, with a balance frequency of 28,800 vph (4Hz) and a movement containing 46 jewels.

Most of the movement is hidden from view. However, on the watch's spec sheet, Urwerk lists various finishing aspects such as round grain, diamond polishing, chamfering, and polished screw heads, which will undoubtedly appeal to purists.

The watch is equipped with a single barrel, which provides a power reserve of 39 hours. That might not sound impressive at first, but considering the energy required to propel the hour module, the power reserve is actually quite respectable.Jacob & Co. replica

Urwerk teamed up with renowned Welsh tailor Timothy Everest to give the limited edition Eastwood model an even more eye-catching design element.

Tweed gives the watch a truly unique personality. Interestingly, despite its conservative and sometimes composed image, tweed takes on a glamorous and highly unusual aesthetic when paired with Eastwood.

In fact, the warmth of the shoulder straps contrasts with the indifferent personality usually associated with tweed.

The Urwerk UR-110 Eastwood is always on my watch list. It deftly combines style, invention, function and craftsmanship in one stunning form.

Where the Urwerk UR-110 Eastwood proves particularly creative is the combination of two elements, wood and tweed, which, on the surface, are very traditional. Yet, somehow, experts paired materials with existing models, delivering a fresh, bold and highly contemporary aesthetic.
